Thunder Bay – Hunt, Johnsen lead Thunderbolts at ManSask Long Course Championships Zoe Hunt and Cameron Johnsen of the Thunderbolts Swim Club led their team of 25 swimmers at the 2015 ManSask Long Course Championships held this past weekend in Winnipeg.  

Hunt brought home five medals in the girls’ 12 and under category:  Three gold medal finishes in the 400m freestyle, 100m and 200m breaststroke, and two silver medal performances in the 100m and 200m freestyle events. 

Johnsen secured three bronze medals in the boys’ 13 and under category, sweeping all 3 breaststroke  Events. Johnsen’s times in both the 50m and 200m breaststroke events were age-group national time standard qualifiers.  

Emily Murphy joined Hunt with a podium performance in the girls’ 12 and under category, winning a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly. 

In the girls’ 13-14 category, Lindsay Puhalski claimed silver and bronze in the 200m and 100m freestyle, and added silver in the 400m IM. Puhalski’s times in the 50m and 200m butterfly and 100m and 200m freestyle events added to her age-group national time standard qualifiers.

Megan Carlson and Emma Lockyer led the girls’ 15 and under medal count. Carlson secured silver in the 200m butterfly and bronze in the 200m IM events, while Lockyer struck gold in the 200m IM and took home bronze in the 400m IM.  Abby Mulligan snatched a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle event.

Nathan Hay secured a bronze medal in the 400m IM to lead the way in the boys’ 14-15 category, while Zach Adamson was a finalist with a solid performance in the 100m backstroke event.

Other finalists as well as those with personal-best performances included Emma Adamson, Abby Brown, Rachel Brown, Isabel Harri,  Brooke Hulina,  Hannah Johnsen, Julie Siver, Jasmine Vardy, Noelle Vita, Aminah Fares, Alexa Grant, Alexis Halvosen, Madison Halvorsen, Amy Knott, and Emma Schlyter. 

In the team standings, Thunderbolts women placed 6th overall out of 25 teams in attendance  at the meet Thunderbolts  qualifiers will  compete  later this month at the  Canadian Age Group Championships in Quebec City.
