Cats erupt for 6 in 14th, earn fourth straight win

Extra-inning affairs are rapidly becoming the Border Cats forte. The Northwoods League teams scored six times in the 14th inning Sunday night to capture their fourth straight win, downing the host Wisconsin Woodchucks 13-9.

The Northwoods League teams scored six times in the 14th inning Sunday night to capture their fourth straight win, downing the host Wisconsin Woodchucks 13-9. It was their second consecutive extra-inning win.

Nate Nolan got the ball rolling, delivering a bases-loaded RBI single with one out in the 14th.

Alan Baldwin followed with a walk that scored Joe Gellenbeck, the after Connor Kelly gave way to reliever Jake McMahon, Max Dutto and Jared James hit back-to-back singles to score three more.

Matt Batten finished off the rally with a sacrifice fly to left that plated Dutto.

Thunder Bay trailed 6-2 after six, but batted around in the eighth and scored three runs, Tyler Green and Mikael Mogues singling home the first two and Alan Baldwin the third on a bases-loaded free pass.

Ryan Johnson started the game for the Border Cats, but gave way to Anthony Morris in the third, after giving up four runs on five hits and a pair of walks.

Julian Loret de Mola, who induced an inning-ending double play after taking over with one out and the bases loaded in the 11th, took the win, giving up two runs in the 14th.

Kelly was tagged with the loss.

The Cats improved to 9-14 in second-half play and remain in last place in the North Division.
