Jon Kreiner hopes lightning strikes twice.
With CIS most valuable player Jylisa Williams headed to Germany and the professional ranks, the Lakehead University women’s basketball coach is headed south of the border for his latest recruit.
Amanda Miller averaged 10 points and six rebounds playing for Colby Community College in Kansas. Kreiner is excited at the arrival of the 5-foot-11 wing.
“Amanda is a very long athlete who gets her hands on many passes. She is a good shooter from the perimeter and she has the potential to be a very tough matchup as she can play both inside and out,” he said in a release issued by the OUA team on Monday.
Miller grew up in Pontiac, Mich., where she was a three-time basketball MVP, an all-state third-team member and one of the 12 best players in Oakland Country.
Miller also played volleyball, softball and starred in track and field – not to mention receiving top scholar honours from her teammates.
“I am excited to attend Lakehead University because it is big on my academic program of interest (kinesiology).
"I also chose to come here because it’s in Canada, has a great basketball team, plus I get an extra year of eligibility. I love the campus and how small it is, everything is more convenient and is geared to support student-athletes.”
