Pair of Kings clubs off to London tourney

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Kings have two of their AAA hockey teams heading to southern Ontario this weekend to compete in the London Jr. Knights Wendy Dufton Memorial tournament.

Both the minor midget and bantam squads will be taking part in the tourney, which runs Friday through Sunday.

Game action for the minor midgets begins Friday morning at 8 a.m. when they take on the York-Simcoe Express.

That will be followed with a 2 p.m. encounter vs. the Southern Tier Admirals of the Niagara Region.

Two more tilts are on the minor midgets’ slate Saturday.

The Mississauga Senators provide the opposition in Game 1 of the day at 10:30 a.m., which will be followed by a 7:45 p.m. contest against the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs.

As for the bantam Kings, they too play twice Friday squaring off against the host London Knights at 10:30 a.m. with Elgin-Middlesex serving as their opponents at 2:30 p.m.

They will then conclude round robin action Saturday at 10:15 a.m. vs. the Windsor Jr. Spitfires.

Further games for both the minor midget and bantam Kings will be determined on their results.

There are 30 teams competing in the minor midget division of the tournament while six are taking part in the bantam group.
