It was a good day for Kevin Tree at the senior national cross country running championships. The swift Thunderwolf finished sixth to ean a prestigious national-team berth in the process.

With this performance Tree will represent his country at the 2016 Pan American Championships in Caracas, Venezuela in March.

"Tree ran tough the entire race with most of the best distance runners in Canada," said coach Kip Sigsworth. "He was always up in the lead pack and responded to any moves that were made."

When the break away for the win was made with about 1km to go Tree competed well and ended up only 10 seconds behind the winner.

Lakehead's other runners also ran well. Dominique Aulganon placed 36th, Trevor Zimak 62nd, Tyler White 73rd and Kenny Groop 87th. Overall Lakehead Running placed 8th in the senior men's team results.

Marla Keyes was the only female representative for Lakehead. She ended the year with her best race of the season in 42nd place in the senior women's division.

"It's a great way to end the season overall," Sigsworth said.

"I was pleased with the way the guys bounced back for an off day at OUA's. Tree was great again, proving that on race day he can compete with anyone in the country."
