Seven Lakehead wrestlers took part in the York Open on Saturday, with five placing in the top five of their respective weight classes.

Emma Horner, Lakehead's lone female competitor, was dominant once again, winning all four of her matches and the gold medal in the 59kg.

Kevin Leatherdale placed fourth in the 61-kilogram category, winning three while losing two of his matches. Chris Waltner (51-kilogram) Cesar Fleurant (82-kilogram) and Drew Anderson (100-kilogram) all placed fifth in their classes.

It was a tougher day for Brody Evans (82-kilogram) and Tyler Ashurst (76-kilogram), who were able to earn a win each, but also took two losses apiece which put them out of the points standings.

"It was a strong event with all OUA teams attending along with the U of Alberta and two teams from the USA," said coach Francis Clayton. "I was pleased with the results, it gives us a lot to work with moving forward."

The team will resume competition in the new year on Jan. 9 at the Brock Open.
