It’s official.

As first reported last week by TB Newswatch, Danny Benedetti is back for a second season as manager of the Thunder Bay Border Cats.

The team made the announcement on Monday, after Benedetti led the Northwoods League team to a 33-38 record in 2015, his first at the helm.

A former star catcher with the team, Benedetti is at present an assistant coach at St. John’s University. The Long Beach, Calif. native is excited to try to build on what the team accomplished last summer.

“I’m very excited to be returning to the Border Cats and the Northwoods League this coming season,” he said in a release.

“We made some strides last year, but our ultimate goal is to make the playoffs and bring a third league championship to Thunder Bay. The recruiting process is well under way and we expect to have a very competitive team this summer.”

Cats president and general manager Brad Jorgenson said it was an easy decision to bring his skipper back.

“Danny has tremendous recruiting ties across the college baseball landscape and we are extremely pleased to have continuity with our manager’s position for a second straight season,” Jorgenson said.

The Cats open their 14th season on May 31 at TbayTel Park at Port Arthur Stadium against Mankato.
