White, a native of Thunder Bay, was fifth in qualifying for the sprints, but refocused in the knock-out heats and overtook a pair of opponents down the stretch to take the A-final and top spot in the race, winning by just 0.12 seconds.

In the senior race NDC-TB’s Jenn Jackso took second, teammate Alannah MacLead grabbing sixth spot. Andy Shieds finished fifth in the men’s competition.

The individual start skate races are scheduled for Saturday.
