Somppi captures 15K skate race at Eastern Canadian Championships

CANTLEY, Que. -- Thunder Bay skier Michael Somppi is back on top of the podium. Somppi on Saturday outpaced the field in the 15-kiloemtre skate race at the Eastern Canadian Championships in Cantley, Que, crossing the line in 34:45.

Somppi on Saturday outpaced the field in the 15-kiloemtre skate race at the Eastern Canadian Championships in Cantley, Que, crossing the line in 34:45.-1, about 25 seconds ahead of his nearest rival, Alberta’s Kevin Sandau.

Fellow NDC-Thunder Bay teammate Andy Shields was seventh, while Scott Hill was another spot back in eighth. Evan Palmer-Charrette completed the course in 12th.
