Koivula falls short at Northern Ontario men's curling championship

Thunder Bay’s Brier hopes have been dashed for another year.

Thunder Bay’s Brier hopes have been dashed for another year.

Sudbury’s Jordan Chandler stopped the Colin Koivula rink for the second time in one day on Saturday, winning 7-4 in the semifinal round at the 2016 Traveler’s Men’s Provincial Championship in North Bay.

Koivula started strong, taking a 2-0 lead in the second, but Chandler stormed back in front in the third with a three-point end.

Koivula evened the game in the fifth, but Chandler responded with a pair in the sixth and never trailed from there, putting it away with two in the 10th.

Chandler will take on five-time champion Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie in Sunday’s final. Jacobs, the defending Olympic gold medalist, won the Brier in 2013.
