BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Thunder Bay’s Ted Belisle is stepping down as an assistant coach with the Bemidji State University men’s hockey team to take up a scouting role with the Los Angeles Kings.

Belisle, who played four years with the Beavers before spending 13 years as a recruiting co-ordinator and coach, will be tasked by the Kings to keep an eye on hockey talent in the United States.

“I have to thank a lot of people for my time at Bemidji State and that starts with Bob Peters and Tom Serratore,” Belisle said in a release issued by the team.

“Bemidji State hockey has been part of my life for the better part of 17 years and I am lucky to have had those two men as my mentors along the way.

“The thing I will miss most about BSU is the players, but in saying that, eventually we will all be part of the same club as alumni of Beaver hockey.”

During his time at the school, he’s been a part of five regular-season championships, four NCAA tournament appearances and a magical run to the Frozen Four in 2009.

The former Thunder Bay Flyers star played 90 games with the Beavers from 1997 to 2001.

“I’ve always said Bemidji and Bemidji State is a special place for special people.” Belisle continued, “I am thankful for the friends and colleagues I’ve had and earned along the way and I am glad to call this home.”

“This is a great opportunity for Teddy to advance his career at the professional level,” said coach Tom Serratore in the same release. “He has a great eye for talent and is going to do an outstanding job for the L.A. Kings.

“Teddy has been a big part of this program for 13 years as a recruiting coordinator and assistant coach and four years before that as a player and captain. His fingerprints are all over this program. He has given his heart and soul to Beaver Hockey and he will be missed.”

The 39-year-old Belisle will begin his duties with the Kings immediately, joining them in Buffalo for this weekend’s NHL Entry Draft.
