ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Thunder Bay Border Cats are back in the win column.
The Cats on Tuesday salvaged a split in Rochesters, knocking off the Honkers 5-3 to improve to 3-23 on the season.
Anthony Borcato homered and Mitch Bigras drove in a pair with a first-inning sacrifice fly and a fifth-inning triple.
Andy Weber had a 3-for-5 night and scored twice for Thunder Bay, who have won two of their past three games.
Jordan Thompson had a strong outing on the mound for the Border Cats, surrendering just six hits and a walk over seven innings before giving way to the bullpen.
The Honkers, who had lost 10 straight before beating Thunder Bay on Monday, loaded the bases against Cats reliever Seth Gill in the eighth, but Kyle Kasser struck out to strand the runners, Gill giving up just one.
Vinny Santarsiero struck out two in a perfect ninth to pick up the save, his first.
Thompson earned his first win of the season, improving to 1-3. Issac Friesen took the loss, giving up four runs in five innings of work.
The Border Cats move north to Duluth on Wednesday for a double-header against the Huskies. They return home on Thursday to face the Willmar Stingers.
There will be Canada Day fireworks after the game.
