DULUTH, Minn. – The Thunder Bay Border Cats are on a roll.

Andrew Fregia hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season on Wednesday afternoon and the Border Cats scored five times in the first inning and held on for an 11-6 win in the first game of scheduled doubleheader against their cross-border rivals.

Anthony Borcato was also a force at the plate for Thunder Bay, going 4-for-6 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI.

Shane Shepard also drove in two for the Cats, who pounded out 13 hits to improve to 4-24 in 2016.

Gunnar Kay got the start for the visitors, but only lasted into the fourth, leaving after surrendering five runs – just one of them earned – on six hits and two walks.

Ben Hoffman took over and settled things down, going nearly five innings in relief while allowing just one run on four hits. Hoffman was awarded the win.

Henry DeCaster took the loss for Duluth, allowing seven runs in four innings.

Duluth scored four in the fourth to trim the Thunder Bay lead to 7-5, but the Cats got two back in the fifth and added single runs in the seventh and eighth to put the game away.

Daniel Almaral had a pair of doubles and two RBI to pace the Huskies.

The two teams square up again on Thursday night.

The Border Cats return home on Thursday for their annual Canada Day fireworks game.  First pitch is a half-an-hour later than normal, at 7:35 p.m.
