Cava, Makela taken in Canadian Women's Hockey League draft

Thunder Bay’s Michela Cava was taken in the third round Sunday by the Toronto Furies in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League draft.

Thunder Bay’s Michela Cava was taken in the third round Sunday by the Toronto Furies in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League draft.

The 5-foot-4 forward spent the past two seasons with the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs, racking up 19 goals and 19 assists in 2015-16.

Over four NCAA seasons – she also played for Connecticut, Cava scored 42 goals and collected 88 points in 138 appearances.

Former Thunder Bay Queens goaltender Amanda Makela was selected 40th overall in the fifth round by les Canadiens de Montreal.

Makela posted a 1.44 goals against average in 31 games for Mercyhurst College in 2014-15.
