THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead Thunderwolves have turned to the Tier 2 ranks to fill up their forward ranks.

The OUA hockey club on Thursday announced it has landed Red Rock, Ont.’s Evan Mignault, who starred with the Nipawin Hawks of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for the past three years. Mignault scored 22 goals and added 40 assists for the Hawks last season, collecting 62 points in 53 appearances.

At 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, the winger likes what he sees at Lakehead.

“I think that CIS hockey is a very good brand and I wanted to stay close to home after being out west for my junior career,” he said in a release. “Lakehead is a nice fit for me.”

Coach Bill McDonald sees Mignault as a good fit for his team.

“Evan has good vision with the puck can play both wings,” McDonald said.  “He’s a gritty player and adds some size to our lineup.”
