You might spot recognizable face when you purchase your next scratch ticket at the lottery store.

Michael Somppi, 21, from Thunder Bay, along with several other athletes, was chosen to be on the front of the new Quest for Gold lottery ticket.

The Lakehead University student was picked because of his love for cross-country skiing. He trains with the Lappe Nordic Club just outside of Thunder Bay and has been with the National Development Centre for the past three years.

Somppi first found out he was going to be on the ticket a few months ago, and says it still seems like a dream come true.

Somppi says he is looking to compete in international races this year, starting with a qualifying run in Quebec this coming weekend.

His parents have framed one of the tickets as a lasting souvenir, and put it on the wall in their home.
