A new training device called the Crossover Flywheel was developed in the U.S. to help hockey players train, and now some researchers from Lakehead University are testing the product.

The Flywheel was designed to help individuals train for hockey, specifically developing the player’s skating and cross over strides.

LU professor, Bill Montelpare said he is working with the Mayo Clinic to help them validate the device.

The unit is a large disc that is placed on a slant. The skater jumps onto the device and it begins to rotate. To keep from being thrown off the disk, the skater moves forward using a crossover motion. The end result is a large treadmill-like device for skaters.

The device is not available in Canada yet, but Montelpare expects it won't be long before the device in known all around the world.
