Only seven rinks now stand in the way of Krista McCarville and an Olympic date in February in Vancouver.
The Thunder Bay foursome, that also includes Lorraine Lang, Kari MacLean-Kraft and Tara George, doubled Kelly Scott 6-3 on Friday afternoon to win the B-side final at the Road to the Roar, the pre-Olympic women’s curling qualifier in Prince George, B.C.
McCarville scored singles points in the second and fourth ends to take a 2-1 lead, and after Scott scored one to even the score in the sixth, McCarville stormed back with two in the seventh to go up 4-2. Up 4-3 with the hammer in the ninth, the Fort William Curling Club squad rolled off a deuce to put the match out of reach. After losing their first game, McCarville and company rolled off four straight victories to finish the week at 4-1.
McCarville earned the second of four Olympic qualifier spots available on the women’s side of this week’s event.
The Roar of the Rings will be staged in Edmonton, starting on Dec. 6.
