Unfortunately close doesn’t count on the volleyball court

The Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s team gave the RMC Paladins a run for their money on Sunday, but lost for the third time in three days on the road this weekend.

Jorie Daymond had 22 points to lead the Wolves attack, while rookie Stephanie Chartrand had two aces, three stuff blocks and four kills.

The Wolves dropped the first two sets 25-22 and 25-23, before winning the third 25-20. But they came up short in the finale, losing 25-21.

Lakehead coach Chris Green, though happy with his squad’s effort, was less than impressed with the fact they were forced to play three games in three days, against three playoff teams from a year ago.

“This match situation will never happen again. Three games, all home openers and going in blind on every game. It is frustrating to have our work minimized in this manner,” Green said in a release.

"As for the game, again a tough game and a game we should have in our win column. We had to rely on playing smart and tactical, neither of which we did well.
