Volleyball squad's playoff dreams quashed

By Leith Dunick, tbnewswatch.com

There was no upset to be had by Lakehead in their first trip to the OUA women’s playoff since 2006.

The Thunderwolves were handily swept on Saturday by the fourth-ranked York Lions, ending their hopes of a post-season run in a hurry.

York took the first set 25-14, the second 25-18 and capped off their victory with another 25-14 set. Jorie Daymond had eight kills and Vanessa Chorkaway seven for the Wolves, who finished the regular season 9-9.

Coach Green,Daymond,Chorkaway, how is the piece of humble pie tasting? They get an upset win over Ottawa last weekend and these 3 get all cocky that no team wants to face LU in the playoffs. So they go play York and they get their doors blown off, thoroughly trounced. You never give your opposing team bulletin board material. Always great when cocky coaches and athletes who run their mouth get taken down a notch.

When a team wins as many games in a row as they did, including a win over the #4 team in the country at the time, there's no denying that they were entering the playoffs on the right kind of roll. I'm glad they had confidence, they deserved it! Instead of being happy for the team for finally having something be be proud of, you choose to focus on the negative. Now move on to cry and complain about everything else in this city.

Really Old Vienna? Nice one, such a stupid comment. If you only knew this group of fine athletes, you would know that they are far from being cocky and are just proud to have worked this hard to make playoffs and contend with what are considered Ontario's best teams, now they are considered one of them and are respected as such. Have you ever played in a playoff match in your opponent's gym, their fans banging pots and pans and yelling profanities at you while you try to focus on the tast at hand? Not easy. They faced adversity, worked hard to get this far, and it's stupid comments like yours that is not called for. For the rest of the community that supported this fine group of athletes, thank-you so much.
