Ashley Kallos took on a veteran Ontario Scotties skip and emerged victorious.

The Thunder Bay skip scored three in the ninth end to take down former finalist Cathy Auld 9-4 on Day 2 of the provincial women’s curling championship, evening her record at 1-1. Auld, who won her opener, fell to 1-1.

Kallos and teammates Jessica Williams, Laura Vieira and Oye-Sem Won opened a 4-1 lead in the fourth, then stole one more in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead at the break. Auld cut her deficit in half with two in the sixth, but the two teams traded points in the seventh and eighth, Kallos maintaining a two-rock advantage.

In Monday’s opener the Kallos rink fell 7-5 to Listowel’s Allison Flaxey.

Flaxey, Julie Hastings and Julie Reddick top the standings at 2-0.

Kallos takes on Tracy Horgan in Draw 4 on Wednesday.
