Four skiers with Thunder Bay ties have been selected to represent Canada later this month.

Scott Hill, Ben Wilkinson-Zan and Andy Shields of the National Development Centre along with Angus Foster of the Big Thunder Nordic Club will compete at the world junior and world under-23 championships in Val di Fiemme, Italy.

Hill was the first skier selected in the junior men category based on his No. 1 ranking after the five Haywood NorAm races in December.

Wilkinson-Zan is in his first year with the Thunder Bay-based training group and earned with spot with a strategic race, clocking the fastest time on a punishing 10 kilometre classic technique course.

Shields cemented his spot with a strong performance in the 30 kilometre skiathlon, the longest event of the trials.

Foster earned his place on the team in the sprint skate technique event after he powered his way to the A-side final and came away victorious in that race.

The athletes will compete from Jan. 27- Feb. 3.
