The Kay family pipeline is continuing to produce ballplayers for the Thunder Bay Border Cats.
On Thursday the Northwoods team announced that not only will outfielder Cory Kay return for a third season, but younger brother Gunner will follow too.
Cory Kay hit .257 with two homeruns and 24 RBI for the Cats in 2013. Gunner Kay, who’ll become the third sibling to suit up for Thunder Bay, posted a 7-1 record with a 1.70 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 61 innings in his final season of high school. He’s currently a freshman at Dallas Baptist University.
Older brother Brett spent two summers in Thunder Bay, and was drafted last June by the San Francisco Giants.
The Border Cats also announced Thursday that infielder Adam Collins, who hit .381 in 11 games at the end of last season, will also be back.
Collins had five doubles and three homers in his short stay in Thunder Bay.
The Border Cats open their 12th season at home against the St. Cloud Rox on May 27.
