Jayde Turcotte turned aside all 21 shots she faced to backstop the Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens to a 3-0 victory over Team Detroit on Friday morning in their opening game of the Tier 1 – 2 Nations Elite Showcase in Milwaukee.

Montano Russo notched the only goal the Queens needed as she finished off the work of Bronwyn Bolduc and Kaley Tienhaara midway through the first period.

A minute and half later Tienhaara struck on the power play to make it 2-0 through the opening session. Samantha Isbell and Emily Oleksuk picked up assists on play.

After a scoreless second stanza Thunder Bay iced with 30 seconds to go as Azia Vass fed Samantha Strassburger who deposited the puck into an empty net to round out the scoring.

Final shots on goal favoured the winning side by a 27-21 margin.

The Queens return to the ice at 2:30 p.m. for their second game of the day as they take on the Madison Capitols in the 10-team event.
