A strong first quarter was about all the Lakehead Thunderwolves could take out of Friday’s 10-point road loss to Laurier.

The Wolves led the Golden Hawks 22-14 after 10 minutes, but surrendered the lead in the second, allowing No. 9 Laurier to score 28 points en route to a 75-65 triumph.

Jylisa Williams once again led the Lakehead attack scoring 22 points and grabbing 15 a rebounds in a losing cause.

The loss drops Lakehead into sixth place in the OUA West with a 9-10 record, giving themselves a two-game cushion over Guelph in the race for the final playoff berth.

The Gryphons and Wolves wrap up regular-season play next weekend at the Thunderdome.

Katie Ulakovic, who hit four three-pointers, had 15 points off the bench for LU, who also had an 11-point effort from senior Ayse Kalkan.

Guard Laura Doyle and Kimberley Yeldon led the Golden Hawks (15-4) with 14 points apiece. The two teams meet again on Saturday night.
