Lakehead University’s baseball squad will open up play on the road this season.

The team on Sunday announced its 2014 schedule, which will see the Thunderwolves travel south of the border to Rainy River Community College for a Sept.  13 opening-day doubleheader.

The team will play an intra-squad contest on Sept. 16 at Baseball Central before opening their home schedule four days later with a doubleheader against MSU Moorhead.

The season concludes on the road on Oct. 19 against the University of Wisconsin at Superior.

The Wolves are holding open tryouts on Sept. 6 and Sept. 7 at Baseball Central.

The team this year has been moved into the District 6 North Conference along with the University of Minnesota, the University of Wisconsin at Superior, Minnesota State at Moorhead and North Dakota State University.

I never knew LU had a baseball team. Is this something new or did I just not notice the team? If they are new and playing exhibition games against USA College teams I hope they are playing Division 27 teams. On a more serious note, I hope the team does well and has fun too.

This is exciting news, I hope that a lot of our homegrown talent is given a chance to thrive. I only wish this existed 10 years ago, would've loved a try out!
