Ginoogaming First Nation Band Manager

Ginoogaming First Nation is located on the northeast shore of Long Lake, 1 km south of the town of Longlac, Ontario, with access through the town from Highway 11. It occupies an area of 70 sq. kms. or 26 sq. miles (17,280 acres). Total population is 718, with an on-reserve population of 260 and an off-reserve population of 458. Traditional languages of Ojibway and Oji-Cree are spoken, along with English.

Ginoogaming First Nation is currently inviting applications for the position of Band Manager.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief and Council, the Band Manager will oversee all operations of the First Nation. The Band Manager will ensure that all operations are conducted in a respectful and responsible way, ensuring that all decisions and actions meet the relevant legislation, policies and procedures. He/she is responsible for all financial transactions, programs and services created and implemented by the Chief and Council.

The Band Manager is responsible for managing staff members and delivery of programs in the areas of health, social services, community development, housing, infrastructure and education. The Band Manager also acts as liaison between other government and non-government agencies and departments, private industry business and any other individuals and groups operating in the community. The Band Manager must ensure that anyone conducting business or programs in the community is responsible to the First Nation, any and all legislation, policies and procedures, and community members.

The Band Manager must provide records and documents to the relevant governments and agencies, as per operating and financial agreements approved by the First Nation Council. He/she must also ensure that all business and operations are conducted in a responsible, confidential and ethical way.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Appropriate candidates will preferably have previous experience as a Band Manager, or relevant related experience. Candidates will also have the have knowledge, skills and personal attributes as outlined in the Job Description.
