91.5 CKPR, Rock 94, Energy 103 104 is proud to support the Magnus Theatre 2018-2019 Season!
Magnus Theatre’s Artistic Director, Thom Currie, laid out his vision for the upcoming 2018-19 season today. As always, the new season has something for everyone, but the new season will be packing even more entertainment into the mix.
The Main Stage officially starts with BANG BANG, a drama by Kat Sandler. A white playwright uses the shooting of an unarmed young Black man by a police officer as a “jumping off point” for his hit play that is soon to be adapted into a major movie. Gripping, controversial and very funny, BANG BANG is a brand new play from an exciting new playwright.
Next up is the theatre hit with a cult-like following; THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW by Richard O’Brien. The humorous “musical with music” has thrilled audiences around the world since the early 1970s and will have Thunder Bay audiences on their feet to do the Time Warp.
Magnus ends the first half of the season with a Christmas Classic by a northern playwright. Michael Shepherd’s take on Charles Dickens’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL will be holiday fun for the entire family. Follow Ebenezer Scrooge’s visits from the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Future in a heartwarming tale of redemption.
The second half starts with the intriguing one man show HUFF. Written and performed by Cliff Cardinal, Huff is the wrenching, yet darkly comic tale of Wind and his brothers, caught in a torrent of solvent abuse and at high risk of suicide. Wind’s fantastic dream world bleeds into his haunting reality, as he’s preyed on by the Trickster through the hallways at school, the abandoned motel he loves more than home, and his own fragile psyche.
Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and Magnus Theatre have teamed up to bring Thunder Bay a co-production of BUYING THE FARM, a hilarious comedy by Shelley Hoffman and Stephen Sparks. Thom Currie will direct both the Winnipeg and Thunder Bay productions.
The season will conclude with the non-stop comedy BOEING BOEING by Marc Camoletti and translated by Beverley Cross and Francis Evans, this classic 1960’s French farce was a smash hit recent Broadway revival. The story concerns the self-styled Parisian lothario Bernard, who has three fiancées, each one an airline hostess on competing airlines. All is going smoothly until an unexpected schedule change brings all three to the apartment for an overnight at the same time. Chaos ensues, as Bernard enlists his best friend and his cleaning lady to keep his three fiancées from figuring out what is going on.
Magnus will also be including many bonuses in the new season including Theatre For Young Audience Tours, A Community Fundraiser Show involving local lawyers, a series of concerts throughout the year, The 2019 Collective Creation Project, the all new Magnus Theatre Young Company, Magnus Masterclasses and much more.
The new season at Magnus will offer theatre fans more than ever!
