Accused in knife attack makes first appearance

THUNDER BAY - A Thunder Bay man accused of assaulting another man with a knife on Sunday night will remain in custody following a brief court appearance on Monday.

Julian Jordan Mawakeesick, 30, of Thunder Bay was formally charged with assault with a weapon following a stabbing incident in the city on Sunday, May 24.

Police say a 34-year-old male victim suffered a non-life threatening injury following an altercation with the accused.

Mawakeesick appeared by video before Justice of the Peace Jennifer A. Neill, who remanded the accused to Wednesday as he begins the process to seek counsel.

The accused also faces an outstanding charge of a breach that required him to reside in Sandy Lake.

Mawakeesick will return to court on May 27.
