THUNDER BAY – Five innings of one-hit ball from starter Mason Kosowick was just what the doctor ordered for the Thunder Bay Border Cats.
The first-year hurler held the host Rochester Honkers to a single run and the bullpen took care of the rest, leading the Cats to a 4-2 triumph than snapped a two-game losing skid and improved the team’s second-half record to 5-11.
Catcher Trey Fikes had three hits in five trips to the plate, driving in a pair for Thunder Bay. Calvin Warrillow and leadoff hitter Jeremy Sheffield, who homered, also had RBIs for the visitors, who scored single runs in the first, third, fourth and seventh innings.
Brady Lejeune-Deacutis got the start for Rochester and lasted four innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out five.
Kosowick upped his record to 2-1 on the season.
The Cats continue their post-all-star-game road trip on Sunday against the Honkers.
The Cats return home on Thursday to take on the Willmar Stingers in a double header. Game time for Game 1 is 5:05 p.m.
