THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay North Stars have been struggling of late, but came up big against their streaking cross-town rivals.

The North Stars rode a 42-save Jordan Smith shutout performance on Wednesday night, blanking the visiting Kam River Fighting Walleye 2-0.

Noab Broughton and Hunter Forsshew score the goals for the North Stars, who had lost four of five heading into the contest.

The loss snapped the Fighting Walley's eight-game win streak. Eric Vanska made 20 saves and was saddled with the loss.

Kam River will look to get back to its winning ways at home against the Red Lake Miners on Friday night, while Thunder Bay travels to Thief River Falls this weekend.
