THUNDER BAY – The Salvation Army is hosting its annual Christmas dinner this Sunday and everyone in the community is welcome to enjoy the turkey-laden feast.
The meal is free to anyone who is lonely or who otherwise wouldn’t be able to share in a Christmas dinner, said Lori Mitchell, executive director of the Salvation Army Community and Residential Services.
“No one wants to be alone at Christmas time - we are happy to share in this celebration with those who wouldn't be able to otherwise. We are so grateful to the staff of the Valhalla Inn who make this such a special occasion,” Mitchell said in a release issued on Tuesday.
In addition to a turkey dinner with all the fixings, there will be a visit from Santa and gifts for the children, donated through the Toys for Tots Motorcycle Ride, the Thunder Bay Wellness Centre’s Toy Mountain, the Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey team, Toys R U and the Holy Family Church Catholic Women’s League.
The dinner is sponsored by the Valhalla Inn, where this year’s dinner will be held. The hotel’s staff volunteer their time to make and serve the meal.
"The Valhalla team is very honoured to participate in the Salvation Army Community Christmas dinner for over 25 years,” said Scott Mawhinney, the hotel’s general manager.
A shuttle service, provided by Iron Range Bus Lines, will start at 11:45 a.m. from the Water Street and city hall bus terminals.
