THUNDER BAY — For the first time in almost two years, the temperature at Thunder Bay Airport hit the 30 degree mark on Tuesday.
The official temperature recorded there by Environment Canada reached the rare height at 3:00 p.m.
Records show the last time the airport thermometer registered 30 C was on Aug. 12, 2018.
Residents of other areas of the city reported temperatures as high as 32 C on Tuesday afternoon.
The historic average maximum at Thunder Bay on June 2 is only 19 C.
According to Ottawa-based weather historian Rolf Campbell, Thunder Bay ended its second-longest recorded streak of consecutive days below 30 degrees.
The current streak ended at 659 days.
The longest period with no 30-degree temperatures is 679 days, between August 1966 and July 1968.
Environment Canada meteorologist Peter Kimball said the city recorded two days last summer when the temperature topped out at 29.5 C.
The forecast for the rest of the week calls for continuing abnormally warm weather, with temperatures of 29 C and 26 C over the next two days.
