LA CROSSE, Wisc. – The losses continue to mount for the Thunder Bay Border Cats.

The latest came on Friday night, an 8-1 drubbing at the hands of the host La Crosse Loggers, in the Cats final road game of 2019.

The Loggers jumped all over Thunder Bay starter Kyle Wellman in the first inning, scoring three times on four hits and a pair of walks, and never looked back. They added two more in the second and led 7-0 after six before the Border Cats finally got on the board in the seventh against La Crosse starter Steve Bowley.

J.J. Rollon, who had a 2-for-4 night at the plate, singled to score Triston Lundgren, the second batter to face Loggers reliever Owen Martin, who took over with a runner on first.

Bowley left with two outs in the seventh, surrendering a single run on six hits. Martin held the Cats scoreless the rest of the way.

Ryan Holgate and J.T. Schwartz had two RBI for La Crosse, who improved to 19-15, completing a series sweep.

Wellman dropped to 1-2 after the loss.

The Cats fell to 9-24 in the second half and will wrap up their season with a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday against St. Cloud, the top team in the Great Plains West Division.
