ST. LOUIS – The Thunder Bay Chill got some late-game heroics to claim victory Saturday night over the host St. Louis Lions.
Sergio Campano scored in the 90th minute to earn the Premier Development League club a 4-3 win, their third straight triumph pushing them back over .500 at 5-4-0.
It was the very definition of a back-and-forth affair.
The Chill jumped in front in the sixth minute on a Marc Fernandez goal, but Joshua Baker evened things up in the 26th on a pass from Evan Garcia.
Sullivan Silva pushed the Chill ahead again in the 35th, then scored on a penalty kick in the 58th to make it a 3-1 contest.
But the Lions have no quit in their game.
Stefan Andjelic closed the gap to one in the 65th and tied it in the 81st on a pass from Troy Reeves.
The win pulled the Chill to within a point of third-place Kaw Valley, who have played three more games than the Thunder Bay side.
More importantly, it closed the gap with second-place Chicago, the Chill’s opponent on the road on Monday and Tuesday.
The Chill now trail Chicago (6-3-1) by four points and can boost their playoff hopes with a pair of wins to close out the three-game road trip in the Windy City.
Thunder Bay returns home next Friday and Saturday night for a pair against the Lions.
