THUNDER BAY – Thomas Kennedy played last-second hero for the Windsor Lancers on Saturday night, scoring a game-winning lay-up at the buzzer to send the Lakehead Thunderwolves to their 10th loss in 11 games.

Windsor (4-10), trailed by as many as 11 in the third quarter, but battled back, twice taking the lead away in the fourth before winning the hotly fought contest 80-78 – a night after being pounded by 33 points as LU snapped a nine-game losing streak.

Quincy Johnson led the way for LU (3-11), scoring 14 points off the bench in a losing effort.

He hit a three-pointer with three-and-a-half to go in the fourth that gave the Wolves a 76-73 lead, then later tied the game with a two-point shot, the two team deadlocked at 78.

Blake Anderson missed a three-point shot with 74 seconds to go that would have given LU the lead again, and Lock Lam couldn’t connect on a desperation, potential game-winning three after Kennedy’s bucket dropped.

Lakehead led 40-35 at the half, but were outscored 21-15 in the decisive fourth.

The Lancers, who hit 14 three-pointers, were led by 17 from Telloy Smith off the bench. Kennedy and Lucas Orlita added 16 for Windsor.

Johnson topped all Thunderwolves players with 14. Anderson, Lam, Isaiah Traylor, Nick Burke and Davarius Wright all hit double digits for Lakehead. Lam added 10 rebounds for the double-double.

Lakehead travels to McMaster for a pair next weekend.
