SUDBURY, Ont.  – The Lakehead Thunderwolves will hit their home opener in top spot in the OUA West.

Joseph Leonidas scored the overtime winner Saturday night, the only time the Wolves held the lead all game long, giving Lakehead a 4-3 road win over the host Laurentian Voyageurs.

Josh Laframboise scored twice for Thunder Bay, both times tying the contest. His first came at 10:26 of the first period, sandwiched between goals by Laurentian’s William Gignac and Gabriel Paquin.

Laframboise tied it again with five minutes to go in the second, but Laurentian’s Jarett Meyer vaulted the Voyageurs back in front 29 seconds later, beating Lakehead goaltender Nic Renyard.

Jordan King sent the game to overtime with a power-play goal 6:27 into the third.

Renyard faced 39 shots in the victory, which Mackenzie Savard was saddled with the loss, good on 43 of 47 shots sent his way by the Thunderwolves.

Lakehead improved to 3-2-0, giving them a two-point cushion over Toronto, Guelph and Windsor. Laurentian’s record dropped to 2-2-0.

The T-Wolves host Windsor at Fort William Gardens on Friday and Saturday.
