McCarville evens record at Scotties

Team Northern Ontario downs Nunavut 9-3 to sit at 2-2 at national women's curling championship

SYDNEY, N.S. – Team Northern Ontario is still in contention after four games at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Sydney, N.S.

Krista McCarville skipped her team to a 9-3 win over Nunavut on Monday afternoon, evening her record at 2-2.

McCarville scored a single in the first, stole points in the second and third and put the match away with a four-ender in the seventh.

The top four teams in each eight-team pool advance to the championship pool on Thursday and Friday, with the top four from that grouping moving into the traditional Page playoffs.

Team Northern Ontario is tied with Manitoba’s Tracy Fleury for fourth in Pool A after Monday’s action. Ontario and Alberta are both 4-0, while British Columbia is 3-1.

Fleury downed winless Nova Scotia 9-4 in Draw 7 play, while Alberta’s Chelsea Carey edged B.C. 9-8 in an extra end.

Rachel Homan, at the helm of Ontario’s team continued to roll along, pounding winless Quebec 12-2.

Team McCarville is back in action on Tuesday, taking on B.C.’s Sarah Wark in the morning draw. They’ll take on Nova Scotia in the evening draw.
