THUNDER BAY – If Keighan Gerrie wants to catch the eyes of NHL scouts, playing the Minnesota Iron Rangers is a good way to do it.

The Thunder Bay North Stars forward, ranked 140th among North American skaters by the Central Scouting Bureau in their mid-season rankings, scored three times and added four assists on Wednesday night, helping his team humiliate the visiting Minnesota Iron Rangers 18-1 at Fort William Gardens.

Gerrie, 17, jumped into second place in the Superior International Junior Hockey League, upping his totals to 31 goals and 76 points in 38 games.

That leaves him six points behind front-runner Bryce Young of the Red Lake Miners, who last week became just the fourth SIJHL player to hit the 50-goal mark in a single season.

Gerrie wasn’t the only player to put up a pile of points in the laugher, a make-up game added the schedule and played before just 118 fans.

Line-mate Jacob Brown also had a seven-point night, scoring twice to go with five helpers. Alex Erwin had a pair of goals and four assists, while his brother Ben chipped in two goals and three assists and Jayden Mrackic had a three-goal, four-point night.

Only two of the 17 skaters dressed for the Stars – affiliate Carter Pellerin and forward Michael Stubbs, failed to record at least a point for Thunder Bay.

The North Stars (35-3-2) out-shot the Iron Rangers 77-20, chasing starting Minnesota goalie Synjen Amende midway through the second after he allowed 10 goals on 35 shots. Replacement Nick Corneliusen was victimized eight times on 42 shots.

Joshua Baker scored the lone Iron Rangers goal, beating Dougie Newhouse at 10:02 of the first.

Thunder Bay has out-scored the 3-41-0 Minnesota 120-6 in 10 meetings this season.

The North Stars head to Fort Frances on Friday night to take on the Lakers.
