THUNDER BAY - A familiar face will line up at Fort William Gardens in the fall, this time with a different jersey.
Kyle Auger, a pivotal member of the 2018-19 SIJHL champion Thunder Bay North Stars, will play for the Lakehead men's hockey team next season.
The 20-year-old was named the SIJHL's top defenseman in a record-setting 2019. He scored 33 goals and 69 assists for the North Stars, setting the SIJHL record for points in a season by a defenseman.
Auger played three seasons of major junior hockey after being selected in the second round of the 2015 Ontario Hockey League draft by the Windsor Spitfires.
Thunderwolves' head coach Andrew Wilkins said in a Lakehead University press release, “Kyle had an impressive year with the North Stars. While I was scouting him, he was constantly creating offence for his team. We’re thrilled to have him join our program and look forward to his future here with the Thunderwolves.”
“Being a hometown kid, it has always been a dream of mine to wear a Thunderwolves jersey," Auger said in the press release. "I can’t wait to play in front of a passionate group of fans and have a positive impact in my hometown community.”
The Thunderwolves first home game of the 2019-20 season will take place against the Laurentian Voyageurs on Sept. 20.
