Stubbs streak hits 8, Stars win 9th straight

THUNDER BAY – Michael Stubbs scored for an eighth straight contest and Dougie Newhouse stopped 18 shots for the shutout, leading the Thunder Bay North Stars to a ninth straight victory on Tuesday afternoon.

Jayden Mrakic and Evan Nicholas also tallied for the No. 2-ranked Stars in their 3-0 win, taking part in the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s annual Showcase tournament being staged in Hoyt Lakes, Minn.

In other matinee action, Cameron Coutre scored twice to lead Dryden to a 5-2 triumph over the Thief River Falls Norskies. Braden Shae, Curtis Magas and Evan Pakkala also scored for the Ice Dogs. Blake Nelson and Connor Bowey had the goals for Thief River Falls.

The Stars (30-2-2) and Ice Dogs (18-13-4) tangle on Wednesday afternoon.

Star gazing: Thunder Bay defender Kyle Auger was named the SIJHL player of the week.
