T-Wolves finish lost season on winning note

Lakehead winds up tied for ninth in the OUA West at 12-15-1.

LONDON, Ont. – The Lakehead Thunderwolves finished their 2018-19 campaign a point out of playoff spot.

At least they ended on a winning note.

The Wolves on Saturday knocked of the host Western Mustangs for the second time in three outings this season, downing their long-time rivals 5-1 to end the campaign tied for ninth in the OUA West with Waterloo at 12-15-1.

Jordan King, Austin McDonald, Dillon Donnelly, Matt Alexander and Sam Schutt scored for Lakehead in support of goaltender Devin Green, who made 21 saves to pick up the win in his final Thunderwolves game.

Alex De Carlo scored with 3:39 to play in the third to spoil Green’s shutout bid.

The Thunderwolves were successful on three of four power-play attempts. David Ovsjannikov made 20 saves in a losing effort for the Mustangs, who finished solo third at 15-12-1 and will have home-ice advantage in the opening round of the playoffs.
