KITCHENER-WATERLOO, Ont. – The Lakehead Thunderwolves battled back from a two-goal deficit on Friday night, but had to settle for a single point.
The OUA hockey squad got third-period goals from Sam Schutt and Scott Gall to erase a 2-0 Laurier Golden Hawks lead, but after Gall an Daniel Del Paggio scored on their first two shootout attempts, the sticks went cold.
The Wolves failed to score on Hawks goalie Tyler Fassl on seven subsequent shootout tries, Danny Hanlon finally putting the puck past Devin Green in the Lakehead net to secure a 3-2 triumph.
Brandon Robinson and Will Cook scored first-period tallies, one on the power play, the other shorthanded, to stake Laurier to a 2-0 lead.
The result dropped Lakehead into a tie for third in the OUA West, at 8-4-1. The Golden Hawks climbed to 5-7-0.
