Thunderwolves swept at home by Mustangs

THUNDER BAY – The road to the playoffs just got a bit more complicated for the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

The visiting Western Mustangs on Saturday night doubled up their hosts 4-2 to tighten the already tight OUA West standings.

The Mustangs (9-9-3) won both games this weekend at Fort William Gardens, ralllying from three goals down on Friday night to edge the Wolves 4-3.

Frank Spovierro, Kolten Olynek, David Eccles and Anthony Stefano, into the empty net, had Western's tallies. Dexter Kuczek and Josh Laframboise scored for Lakehead (10-10-2), who remain in sixth place with 22 points. The Wolves have a one-point edge on eighth-place Western, and just a three-point advantage over Waterloo (9-12-1), who are currently on the outside looking in.

Nic Renyard made 30 stops to take the loss. Luke Peresinni made 28 saves in picking up the win for the Mustangs.

Lakehead heads to Windsor and Western next weekend.
