WATERLOO, Ont. – A fourth-quarter surge has helped the Lakehead Thunderwolves solidify their claim on one of six playoff spots up for grabs in the OUA West.
The men’s basketball team overcame a four-point deficit after three quarters on Friday night, earning them a 75-64 win over the last-place Waterloo Warriors (3-16).
It was the fourth straight win for Lakehead (7-12), who jumped into a fifth-place tie with the Guelph Gryphons.
Isaiah Traylor continued his hot play of late, scoring 21 points to lead LU to the win. It was the third time in four games he cracked the 20-point mark and the 11th straight games he’s hit double figures.
Davarius Wright came off the bench to add 13.
Guelph’s Justin Malnerich led all scorers with 27.
The Wolves, who hold the tie breaker against seventh-place Windsor, went a game up on the Lancers, with five games left for both teams.
The teams will tip off again at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Waterloo’s Physical Activities Complex. Waterloo has lost nine straight.
The T-Wolves take on Laurier on the road next weekend and wrap up regular season play at home on Feb. 15 and Feb. 16 against Brock.
