It’s not every day that you’ll read a news story with a headline like this one. In the least 25-30 years, of the new brands that were launched, only le luxury makers like Lexus, Infiniti and Acura have survived. Tesla’s also doing fine but Scion, Saturn and Hummer, to name a few, not so fine.

The latter examples are all North American based but there are numerous similar stories from across the globe. Lynk & Co is the brainchild of Geely, the Chinese conglomerate that owns Volvo. It’s no secret that whatever it has done to and for the Swedish car has worked wonders. This time around, Geely is moving downmarket.

Although these new cars will be more affordable, the will be based on Volvo's CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform. The S40 and V40 are based on this platform so the building blocks are sound.

Lynk & Co is promising many things with their upcoming compact crossover. On the website, this as of yet unnamed vehicle will be the most connected car to date. In fact, according to the company, they are reinventing to automobile as the industry has done little more than “spin in circles by doing the same things over and over”. Them’s are strong words.

The cars from Lynk & Co are destined for the Chinese market at first. In time, will make their way to Europe and potentially North America.
