Location: Sioux Lookout, Dryden, Thunder Bay, or Balmertown
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and deliver land-based programming across KiHS sites
• Develop and implement culturally rooted curriculum and guidelines
• Travel to First Nations communities and engage local elders
• Integrate language, local practices, and the 7 grandfather teachings
• Promote wellness and maintain safety and equipment standards
• Track participation, budgets, and report on activities
• Collaborate with staff and complete required training and meetings
• Support other duties as assigned by administration
Qualifications:
2 years experience working in the education field delivering land based activities
Completed post-secondary education an asset
Experience in utilization of traditional ecological knowledge or cultural knowledge within education related fields
Experience developing and delivering educational programming, specifically in land-based learning activities
Ability to speak one of the local dialects an asset
Experience working with secondary students an asset
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
• Experience with land-based and outdoor education programming
• Works independently; self-directed, adaptable, and collaborative
• Culturally aware and sensitive to northern Ontario First Nations
• Effective in both team settings and multi-disciplinary environments
• Physically fit; able to lift 25 lbs and travel to remote communities (including by small plane)
• Valid Class G licence and willing to obtain required certifications (e.g., boating, firearms)
• Clear Vulnerable Sector Check required
• Flexible schedule
