CONSORTIUM AURORA BOREALIS CONCERT - THE BRILLIANCE OF BAROQUE ORGAN: BACH AND BUXTEHUDE
SATURDAY, MAY 11, 2024

As a glorious conclusion to its 45th Season, Consortium Aurora Borealis presents the “The Brilliance of Baroque Organ”, a concert of mighty works by Bach and Buxtehude, the two principal representatives of the North German organ school of that period. None other than Mozart proclaimed the organ to be the ‘King of Instruments, and special guest artist Christopher Dawes, a leading Canadian concert organist, will amply demonstrate the truth of this statement. The style of Buxtehude, the older master, greatly influenced 20-year-old Bach, who made a special 400-km pilgrimage on foot to meet him.

Dawes impresses audiences by both his technical skills and his musical sensitivity. His performances sparkle with crystalline delicacy. The organ’s full colour palette will be explored, from grand down to gentle. St. Paul’s United’s Casavant organ is the ideal instrument for the performance of this repertoire.

This concert is sponsored by Susan Marrier, Bert Rowson, and Elizabeth Ganiatsos.
