Things to consider when moving!

If you’re planning on moving, there are a lot of things to think about before you start packing the truck. Here are a few you’ll want to keep in mind.

What is the Reason for Moving?

There are many reasons to move. Perhaps you got a new job and you can’t reasonably commute there from your current home. Or you could be looking to shorten your current commute.

Maybe you’ve recently had a child and you need another bedroom or some more space. Perhaps you’re looking to move closer to family. Maybe you have gone through a divorce or another change in your family life.

In some cases, people move just because they’re looking to get new opportunities in a new place. Whatever your reason for moving, there are a few things you’ll want to consider before you make the change.

Your Children

For most families who have children, their kids are one of their main concerns when they’re thinking about moving. For instance, a lot of families move to a new neighbourhood to get into a better school district or an area closer to parks or recreational facilities.

Children not only influence the decision to move in the first place, but also the timing of the move. Many parents with young kids often hope to move before their children start school to reduce disruptions and avoid having to change schools. On the other hand, if your children are currently in school, you might want to try to move in the summer once the current school year is done. This way, your kids will get to finish the year in their current school and start fresh in the next grade.

All these decisions are unique to you and your situation, so it’s worth it to take some time and think about how your move may affect your children – and your entire family – before you set a date.

Cost of Relocation

Moving typically costs money. First, there is the cost of the move itself. Packing up everything you own, hiring movers, and everything else you’ll need to do has costs attached. When you’re thinking of moving, estimate what the move will cost you and make sure you have a plan to afford these costs.

Another cost to keep in mind is the cost of living in your new neighbourhood. This is especially true if you’re planning a relocation to a new city. Is it more expensive to live in the new area? This doesn’t just refer to the cost of your home, property taxes, insurance, etc. It also means the cost of everything else in life. In each city, things like groceries, transportation, entertainment, etc. will have different costs. When you’re thinking of moving, it’s a good idea to take some time to understand these costs and create a budget that takes them into consideration before you decide to relocate.

How Much Time Do You Need?

While the move itself will probably take a day or two (depending on where you’re moving and how much you’re moving), don’t forget about everything else associated with the process.

The moving process takes time. From packing up your things, to changing your address in numerous places, to moving your utilities, to the move itself, to the unpacking and setting up that happens afterward, it can be a lengthy process.

You want to give yourself enough time to get everything done without rushing or forgetting anything. Since this is the case, think abut when you’ll have this sort of time. If there’s a time of year where you know you’ll be especially busy with work, family commitments, or holiday celebrations, you may not want to plan your move for this time.

And planning is very necessary. The more you plan – and the more detailed and accurate your plans are – the more successful your move will be. At Macho Movers, we can help you with many major aspects of your move – from packing to delivery to unpacking and more – making it easier.
