The Algoma District School Board invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Supervisor of Plant Maintenance.
Reporting to the Manager of Plant, this position is responsible for the planning, coordination and supervision of all maintenance, repairs and minor construction, security, buildings and grounds, for all facilities within the Board. The position provides direction and supervision to unionized staff along with the Assistant Custodial and Maintenance Supervisors.
Summary of Duties
Supervises unionized maintenance staff, assigning work, providing coaching, and ensuring positive labour relations.
Monitors the work order system and assigns work orders to appropriate staff or contractors.
Coordinates maintenance planning, including scheduling preventative maintenance programs.
Schedules, assigns and supervises outside contractors completing maintenance and construction projects at Board facilities.
Travels to Board facilities to conduct regular inspections, discuss issues with onsite staff and contractors, and resolve issues.
Investigates building and maintenance concerns submitted by school staff by communicating with Principals and Custodial staff, troubleshooting issues, and initiating repairs by assigning appropriate staff or contractors.
Creates, reviews and updates standard operating procedures for maintenance staff
Participates in capital planning meetings, providing consultation and recommendations for maintenance improvements and efficiencies during the capital planning stage.
Initiates, monitors, and seeks improvements for maintenance repairs and service contracts.
Analyzes maintenance budget, monitors expenditures, identifies variances, and implements corrective actions.
Approves purchases by maintenance staff, and approves contractor and supplier submitted invoices.
Supports labour relations practices including attendance support and return to work meetings, investigating workplace injuries, vacation scheduling, consulting on collective bargaining, and participating in labour management meetings.
Qualifications
Post-secondary diploma in Construction Engineering Technology or related studies, or a certified trade in electrical, HVAC or mechanical.
Two years’ experience in a building-related environment.
Experience supervising maintenance functions.
Previous supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
It will be considered an asset if candidates have a Professional Engineer designation
It will be considered an asset if candidates have a certification in Project Management
Valid driver’s license is required.
Salary
$87,604 to $109,630

Monday to Friday – 35 hours per week
